This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of people working in the childcare and early childhood learning industry. This course is tailored towards anyone working with children. It covers child-specific first aid in many high-risk areas such as anaphylaxis and asthma as well as common injuries and resuscitation. The Australian Children’s Education & Care Authority (ACECQA) has endorsed this course as meeting their requirements for anaphylaxis, asthma, and first aid training.

Assessment is through a combination of practical first aid activities and a written test paper. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.

➖ Recognise and assess an emergency situation
➖ Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty
➖ Assess the casualty and recognise the need for First Aid response
➖ Seek assistance from emergency services
➖ Perform CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines
➖ Provide First Aid in accordance with established principles
➖ Ensure casualty feels safe, secure and supported
➖ Obtain consent from casualty where possible
➖ Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty comfortable
➖ Operate First Aid equipment according to manufacturer instructions
➖ Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond appropriately
➖ Convey incident details accurately to emergency services
➖ Report incident details according to workplace procedures
➖ Complete required documentation, including incident forms
➖ Report incidents involving children to parents or caregivers
➖ Notify serious incidents to regulatory authorities as required
➖ Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records and information
➖ Recognise psychological impacts on rescuers and seek help
➖ Contribute to review of First Aid response

HLTAID012 is a nationally recognised course tailored for educators and carers working with children. It covers CPR, asthma, anaphylaxis, and emergency responses specific to childcare and school environments.
Is this course ACECQA approved? +
Yes, HLTAID012 is approved by ACECQA and meets all first aid, asthma, and anaphylaxis training requirements for educators and care providers across Australia.
Do I need to complete online learning before attending? +
Yes. The online learning must be completed before attending your face-to-face session. If preferred, this can be done at our Auburn training centre before your practical class.
Can I complete the entire course in one day? +
Absolutely. If you complete the online learning beforehand (or at our centre), you can complete your practical training and receive same-day certification.
What topics are covered in this course? +
You’ll learn CPR for infants and children, asthma and anaphylaxis management, incident reporting for children, injury treatment, infection control, and how to communicate with parents and regulatory authorities.
What age do I need to be to enrol? +
The minimum age to enrol is 14 years. Parental or guardian consent is required for anyone under 18.
Is same-day certification provided? +
Yes. As long as both online and face-to-face components are successfully completed, your Statement of Attainment will be issued on the same day.
How long is my certificate valid for? +
HLTAID012, HLTAID011 and HLTAID010 are valid for 3 years. HLTAID009 (CPR) must be refreshed every 12 months to stay current.
Can I enrol online or book group training? +
Yes. You can enrol directly via our website or contact us to organise group training for your workplace. We can host your group at our Auburn centre or come to your location within 40km.
