This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

This Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course provides you with the skills to perform CPR on a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally. Upon completion, you will have confidence in your knowledge and skills to perform CPR on an adult, a child and an infant, and be able to describe alternative methods for delivering rescue breaths and how to manage a victim of drowning.

Assessment is through a combination of practical first aid activities and a written test paper. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.

• Complete E-Learning, and
• 2 Hours attendance for practical assessment, or
• 4 hours face to face sessions available upon request.

Mode of Delivery: e-Learning plus face-to-face classroom training and assessment. This is a blended course with self-paced online learning (e-Learning) and face-to-face training. Before attending the face to face training, students will need to complete their e-Learning which can be done in one sitting or over several sessions. Depending on the student’s learning ability, they should allow up to 2.5 hours for reading and e-Learning. Face-to-face training and assessment takes 2 hours in a classroom environment.
